I worked with Lara over a period of 6 months. During that time she helped me assess, write and talk about my work more coherently. With her skillful mentoring, I was able to see my work in context and together we developed a future strategy that I could implement. After having an initial session with Lara to check whether working together would feel suitable, we agreed on a set amount of sessions to work with the budget I had. I did not have a set plan prior to starting my sessions on where I would like to take my mentorship, outside of looking for some support in re-writing my Artist Bio, and having some discussions to help me solidify what my Art Practice is about. From our first session, we developed a plan of action for the course of mentorship, which included trying some free writing exercises in my own time, and actively working together on brainstorming exercises to help me pull out common themes and approaches with my work, and articulate them in a way that makes sense to other people.

Lara was a great listener and handles the balance of listening and giving direction really well. Having the time and these sessions have given me a lot of confidence that I can keep building on myself, and I’m sure I’ll be back again whenever I feel I need a bit of extra support!
